Most people die at 25 and aren’t buried until they’re 75.
–Benjamin Franklin
For most adults, after the age of 25, we are cast adrift in the murk of modern life. “Busy” is a common term used as a cover to tell ourselves that we are living and doing something meaningful. If the cover “Busy” is deeply attached to our identity, we will perceive fulfillment. Otherwise, “Busy” will erode away energy and build up our vulnerable ego. Uncertainty and aimlessness are emotional expressions of that ego.
Keeping adults happy and vital is a major quest in Developmental Psychology. This field is exuberant in Japan, Korea, and China, where the major population is aging. Understanding the mechanisms of emotional expressions is crucial to one’s personal growth.
